Choosing a domain name is one of the first steps in building a website. Whether you are starting a business, launching an online store, creating a personal blog, or building a portfolio, your domain name gives people a simple way to find you online.
But how much does domain registration cost in Nepal? The price depends on the domain extension you choose, the provider, and whether you need additional services such as web hosting or business email.
In this guide, we explain domain registration prices in Nepal, compare paid domains with free .com.np domains, and share what to check before registering a domain.
Domain Registration Prices in Nepal
Domain registration prices vary by extension. Some extensions are affordable, while others cost more because of their pricing structure and intended use.
Here are the domain prices listed by FoxNett:
| Domain extension | Registration price per year |
| .com | npr 2500 per year |
| .org | npr 3369 per year |
| .net | npr 3369 per year |
| .io | npr 14,110 per year |
Prices are in Nepali rupees. VAT and applicable charges should be confirmed before registration. Check the FoxNett domain registration page for current pricing.
The right extension depends on your business, audience, and budget. A .com domain is a common choice for businesses and personal brands, .org is often used by organizations and communities, .net is familiar in technology and networking, and .io is popular with some technology companies and digital products.
What Affects Domain Registration Costs?
Before choosing a domain, consider these important factors.
1. Domain extension
The extension is the ending of a domain name, such as .com, .org, or .net. Different extensions have different prices, so compare the cost before registering.
Choose an extension that suits your brand and audience rather than selecting one based on price alone.
2. First-year price and renewal cost
Some domain providers advertise a discounted first-year price. The regular renewal price may be different.
Before buying, confirm:
- The initial registration price.
- The renewal price for the following year.
- Whether VAT is included.
- Whether any optional services cost extra.
Knowing the renewal price helps you estimate the long-term cost of keeping your domain.
3. VAT and additional services
Check whether the listed domain price includes VAT. If VAT is charged separately, the final amount payable will be higher than the displayed price.
You may also need to budget separately for web hosting, business email, website development, or other services. These are not automatically included with every domain registration.
4. Domain availability
Your preferred domain name may already be registered. If that happens, you may need to choose a different name or extension.
Keep a few alternatives ready. Try to choose a name that is easy to spell, memorable, and closely connected to your business or personal brand.
Free .com.np Domain vs Paid .com Domain
If you are building a website in Nepal, you may be able to register a .com.np domain without paying a domain registration fee.
Nepal’s official .np registry states that registration is free, subject to its policies and documentation requirements. Applications are reviewed, and the requested name must meet the registry’s rules. You can check the official requirements at register.com.np.
Here is a simple comparison:
| Feature | .com | .com.np |
| Registration fee | Paid; varies by provider | Free under the official registry policy |
| Geographic identity | International | Connected with Nepal |
| Approval requirements | Depends on the registrar’s process | Must meet official .np registry rules |
| Best suited for | Businesses targeting local and international audiences | Individuals and businesses seeking a Nepal-focused domain |
When should you choose .com?
A .com domain can be a suitable option if you want an internationally familiar address, plan to serve customers outside Nepal, or are building a brand for a wider market.
When should you choose .com.np?
A .com.np domain can be a practical option if your website primarily serves Nepal and you qualify under the official registry’s requirements. It can also help communicate a local connection.
Neither extension automatically guarantees better Google rankings. Choose based on your audience, brand, availability, and long-term plans.
Important: The official .np registration process is separate from purchasing a paid international domain through FoxNett. Contact FoxNett’s sales team to confirm whether assistance is available for .np domains.
Other Costs to Consider When Registering a Domain
The domain registration fee is only one part of the cost of establishing a website.
Web hosting
A domain is your website’s address, while web hosting stores the files and applications that make the website available online. Most business websites need both.
Before selecting a hosting plan, compare its price, storage, performance, security features, backup policy, and renewal terms.
Explore FoxNett to review its available hosting options.
Business email
If you want an email address such as hello@yourbusiness.com, you may need a business email service. Its cost depends on the provider, plan, and number of users.
Check whether email hosting is included in your selected package or needs to be purchased separately.
Website development
Registering a domain does not create a complete website. If you need a business website, online store, or portfolio, website design and development may involve additional costs.
Plan for these expenses alongside the domain and hosting budget.
How to Choose the Right Domain Name
A good domain should be easy for customers to remember and should support your brand over time.
Keep these points in mind:
- Keep it simple: Choose a name that is easy to spell and pronounce.
- Make it relevant: Use a name connected to your business, service, or personal brand.
- Think long term: Avoid names that may limit your business if your services expand.
- Check availability: Search for your preferred name and suitable alternatives.
- Review renewal costs: Make sure the ongoing price fits your budget.
- Check ownership details: Ensure the registration information is accurate and that you can access the relevant domain management account.
If you are registering a domain for a business, use accurate business or owner details and an email address you can continue accessing independently of your website provider.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a .com domain cost in Nepal?
The cost depends on the provider and the applicable registration price, renewal terms, and taxes. Check the FoxNett domain registration page for its current .com price.
Is .com.np free in Nepal?
Yes. Nepal’s official .np registry states that registration is free, subject to its eligibility, naming, and documentation requirements. Applicants should review the official registry policy before applying.
Does domain registration include web hosting?
Not necessarily. A domain is your website address, while hosting stores and delivers your website’s content. Some hosting plans may include an eligible domain for a specified period, so check the plan’s terms.
Do I have to renew a domain every year?
Paid international domains generally require renewal to remain active. The registration period and renewal terms depend on the extension and provider. Check the renewal date and price before registering.
Is VAT included in domain registration prices?
VAT treatment depends on the provider’s displayed prices and billing terms. Confirm whether VAT is included or charged separately before making a payment.
Can I transfer an existing domain to FoxNett?
Check FoxNett’s domain transfer option for eligibility, transfer requirements, fees, and applicable terms before starting the process.
Does a .com domain rank better than a .com.np domain?
A .com extension does not automatically produce better rankings. Choose an extension that fits your audience and business goals, then focus on useful content, technical SEO, website performance, and a good user experience.
Can I get a refund after registering a domain?
Refund eligibility depends on the provider’s terms and the type of domain transaction. Review FoxNett’s current refund policy before completing payment.
Conclusion
The cost of domain registration in Nepal depends on the extension you choose, the provider’s pricing, VAT, and renewal terms. A paid .com domain may suit a business looking for an internationally familiar address, while a free .com.np domain may be a good option for eligible applicants who want a Nepal-focused identity.
Before registering, compare the first-year and renewal prices, check the additional costs of hosting and email, and make sure your domain details are accurate.
